description	This article begins with the construction of social memory and the politics of memory in order to demonstrate how the regions and their intellectual elite turned to eminent regional characters in order to create and strengthen their projects of identity. We seek to demonstrate how the Santander History Center, in compliance with its mission of establishing and disseminating knowledge about the regional past, celebratedthe lives of these three prominent men in regional history in order to position them in the memory of Santander´s citizens as examples of regional pride. The article is structured around the three commemorations: Eloy Valenzuela in 1934, Solón Wilchesin 1935 and Vicente Azuero in 1944. The study concludes that references to these individuals were associated with a set of civic virtues that included: honor, Castilian heritage, modesty, wisdom, adherence to democratic principles, and a progressive,industrial spirit.

Se pretende mostrar cómo el Centro de Historia de Santander, en cumplimiento de su misión de creación y difusión del pasado regional, utilizó las efemérides de tres hombres destacados en la historia regional con el propósito de posicionarlos en la memoria como ejemplos de orgullo santandereano. En esta medida el artículo se estructura a partir de tres conmemoraciones: Eloy Valenzuela 1934, Solón Wilches 1935 y Vicente Azuero 1944. El trabajo concluye que las referencias a estos personajes fueron asociadas a un conjunto de virtudes cívicas como hidalguía, herencia castellana, sencillez, sabiduría, adhesión a principios democráticos, espíritu industrial y de progreso.Cet article commence avec la construction de la mémoire sociale et les politiques de la mémoire pour montrer comment les régions et leurs élites lettrées ont eu recours à des personnages éminents ain de créer et renforcer leurs projets identitaires. On prétend montrer comment le Centre d’Histoire de Santander, conformément à sa mission de créer et diffuser le passé régional, a utilisé les anniversaires de trois hommes renommés de l’histoire régionale dans le but de les placer dans la mémoire comme des exemples de ierté pour les habitants de Santander. C’est la raison pour laquelle cet article est organisé à partir de trois commémorations: Eloy Valenzuela 1934, Solón Wilches 1935 et Vicente Azuero 1944.
