The following study presents a historical route along some of the milestones that led to coeducation in the Western system as we know it (with a final emphasis on the Peruvian process). It concludes that the expansion of coeducation was not due to scientifically-proven benefits but to sociological or economic pressures. The paper concludes that the debate mentioned above can legitimately take up its sustenance in that demonstrated lack of empirical evidence. Ciencias SocialesHistory of coeducation and its dissemination in the western formal educationHistoria de la educación mixta y su difusión en la educación formal occidentalinfo:eu-repo/semantics/articlehttp://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_6693http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_2df8fbb1info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionhttp://purl.org/coar/version/c_970fb48d4fbd8a277http://purl.org/coar/version/c_970fb48d4fbd8a85Gordillo, Enrique001/14746oai:repositorio.uptc.edu.co:001/147462025-07-18 12:00:36.233https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/metadata.onlyhttps://repositorio.uptc.edu.coRepositorio Institucional UPTCrepositorio.uptc@uptc.edu.co
