La depresión es una carga significativa entre adolescentes en Colombia, con alta prevalencia y riesgo de suicidio. La atención primaria es crucial, pero muchos profesionales carecen de formación adecuada. El PHQ-9 A se propone como herramienta clave para mejorar la detección precoz y el manejo de la depresión juvenil. Este estudio evalúa la validez del PHQ-9 en adolescentes colombianos, utilizando análisis clásicos y de Teoría de Respuesta al Ítem. Se busca establecer su robustez psicométrica y su utilidad clínica, destacando la importancia de su validación local para optimizar la atención de salud mental en esta población vulnerable. Metodología: Se evaluó la validez del PHQ-9 mediante análisis clásicos y de Teoría de Respuesta al Ítem (TRI), utilizando R Studio y SPSS. Se verificó la unidimensionalidad, consistencia interna, y se compararon modelos estadísticos. Resultados: El estudio incluyó 365 adolescentes con una alta prevalencia de síntomas depresivos significativos. Se encontró alta consistencia interna (α = 0,90) y buena discriminación entre ítems, prefiriéndose el modelo 2PL sobre el Rasch. Se confirmó la validez convergente con el GAD-7. Discusión: El PHQ-9 demostró robustez psicométrica y validez en adolescentes colombianos, destacando su utilidad para la detección temprana de depresión. Se sugiere seguir investigando en edades más jóvenes y mejorar la validación con entrevistas psiquiátricas. Conclusiones: El estudio respalda el uso del PHQ-9 como herramienta eficaz para el tamizaje de síntomas depresivos en adolescentes colombianos, promoviendo su implementación en entornos clínicos y escolares para mejorar la salud mental juvenil.Introduction. The PHQ-9 A is proposed as a key tool to improve early detection and management of juvenile depression. This study evaluates the validity of the PHQ-9 in Colombian adolescents, using classical and Item Response Theory (IRT) analyses. It aims to establish its psychometric robustness and clinical utility, highlighting the importance of local validation to optimize mental health care for this vulnerable population. Methodology. The validity of the PHQ-9 was evaluated using classical analyses and IRT, utilizing R Studio and SPSS. Unidimensionality, internal consistency, and statistical model comparisons were verified. Results. The study included 365 adolescents with a high prevalence of significant depressive symptoms. High internal consistency (α = 0.90) and good item discrimination were found, with the 2PL model preferred over the Rasch model. Convergent validity with the GAD-7 was confirmed. Discussion The PHQ-9 demonstrated psychometric robustness and validity in Colombian adolescents, highlighting its utility for early depression detection. Further research in younger ages and improved validation with psychiatric interviews is suggested.
