Está subespecie está estrechamente relacionada con Morpho niepelti que habita en el costado occidental de los Andes noroccidentales de Colombia y Ecuador.  Morpho niepelti antioquiensis n. ssp. tiene un patrón de color, en las caras dorsal y ventral, que permite diferenciarla de la especie nominal, es endémica de la parte nororiental de la cordillera Central en Antioquia y Caldas, en las zonas de Amalfi-Anori y La Miel-Samaná, que corresponden a centros de endemismo de bosque nublado que hacen parte del refugio Nechi.A new Morpho niepelti antioquiensis n. ssp. subspecies is described which has been found in the northeast slope of the Colombian Central Cordillera in the department of Antioquia. This subspecies is closely related to Morpho niepelti which dwells in the west side of the northwest Andes of Colombia and Ecuador. Morpho niepelti  antioquiensis n. ssp has a color pattern on the dorsal and ventral faces which allows its differentiation from the nominal species.
