The present study compared suicide risk, minority stress and coping strategies among the sexually minority and heteronormative population of the Colombian Caribbean Coast. The studyincluded 353 young adults, aged between 18 and 30 years, belonging to diverse socioeconomic levels and residents of different municipalities in the Departments of Atlántico and Magdalena. A total of 55.2% reported a heterosexual sexual orientation and 44.5% declared themselves as belonging to minority sexual orientations. The results showed that individuals with minority sexual orientation present a higher suicide risk, experience higher levels of stress for belonging to sexually minority groups, and show a higher tendency to use maladaptive coping strategies compared to the population declared as heterosexual. Based on these findings, we suggest the implementation of psychoeducational programs focused on the use of coping strategies to increase protective factors against suicide in the young population of the Colombian CaribbeanLista de tablas y figuras 9 -- Introducción 11 -- Capítulo I.
