Description
Summary:The shortage of drinking water and sanitation is the main cause of diseases in the world. In 2002, 42% of households lacked toilets and one in six people did not have access to potable water. In developing countries, more than 90% of deaths from diarrhea due to unsafe water and lack of hygiene occur in children under five years of age. The increase of the population, the increase in the consumption of water and a greater demand of water - due mainly to the industrialization and the urbanization - are diminishing the hydric resources in all the world. Conflicts in many parts of the world also threaten children's access to safe drinking water. UNICEF (2008). Warmer temperatures, rising sea levels, an increasing frequency of floods and droughts, and melting ice together affect the quality and availability of water, as well as sanitation systems. Because of this water shortage, which many communities have and that a future could have all, it is required to design a water treatment system in the municipality of El Carmen de Bolívar that is focused on defining the most appropriate water treatment system for the type of water in this municipality and that is powered by solar energy in order to reduce costs and control environmental impacts regarding energy savings and provide a stable source of water for these communities and that they can use as sustenance. Therefore, the present thesis proposes processes to optimize the treatment system for the type of water found in this municipality of Bolívar, with a low energy cost, to make this project profitable to be implemented in the Carmen municipality of Bolíva
