Summary:This paper relates, to a case study about the efficient energy management matter (EEM), carried out on GRACETALES´S clean water plant (cooling tower). This facility is located in Barranquilla-Colombia. The analysis was carried out under real operating conditions, the energetic and economic assessment was made substituting four (4) motors by others with high efficiency characteristics, and powers closer to meet the real operating conditions; additionally, a new frequency driver control was considered. For the evaluation of the project, tools of the norm of energy efficiency ISO 50001 and of quality of the IEEE Std 1159-2009 energy were used. An energy efficiency indicator was established, a baseline and the corresponding Pareto diagram was obtained. In addition, measurements of electrical energy consumption, including harmonics, were made before and after the installation of the new equipment.The results showed that with the installation of the new technology, an energy saving of 36% is obtained, it implies a reduction in consumption of 856,965 kWh / year and a decrease in associated expenses of $ 261,365,755 pesos (89, 642 dollars). With these savings, the investment is recovered in less than two years, which demonstrates the feasibility of the project. Despite the benefits obtained, it was possible to see a deterioration in the quality of the energy in the industrial power supply network, as a result of the increase in harmonics generated by the frequency inverters. In the recommendations of the study, the solution of this problem is proposed through the installation of harmonic filters
