This study focused on understanding how fathers and mothers work together in raising their children and how mixed sexist attitudes are present among them in Barranquilla, Colombia. Researchers used a non-experimental method to find connections between variables. The study involved 340 participants (193 mothers and 147 fathers) from eleven educational institutions, using a non-random sampling approach. Participants provided responses through the Coparenting Relationship Scale (CRS) and the Ambivalent Sexism Inventory (ASI), both known for their reliability. The findings showed that fathers generally felt they were more in agreement with their partners about parenting decisions than mothers reported. There were clear differences in how men and women expressed both hostile and friendly sexist attitudes. Specifically, among mothers, a connection was found between feeling supported or undermined in parenting and benevolent sexism. However, the study didn't find strong links between overall coparenting cooperation and broader sexist attitudes. The research highlighted how important it is to study who holds power in parenting partnerships and how sexist beliefs can shape roles and decisions in the family. It stressed promoting equal sharing of parenting duties, with attention to gender differences. Future research was suggested to include cultural factors and consider children’s viewpoints to gain a fuller picture of family dynamics. The study also called for policies that encourage fair parenting practices. |

Researchers used a non-experimental method to find connections between variables. The study involved 340 participants (193 mothers and 147 fathers) from eleven educational institutions, using a non-random sampling approach. Participants provided responses through the Coparenting Relationship Scale (CRS) and the Ambivalent Sexism Inventory (ASI), both known for their reliability. The findings showed that fathers generally felt they were more in agreement with their partners about parenting decisions than mothers reported. There were clear differences in how men and women expressed both hostile and friendly sexist attitudes. Specifically, among mothers, a connection was found between feeling supported or undermined in parenting and benevolent sexism. However, the study didn't find strong links between overall coparenting cooperation and broader sexist attitudes. The research highlighted how important it is to study who holds power in parenting partnerships and how sexist beliefs can shape roles and decisions in the family. It stressed promoting equal sharing of parenting duties, with attention to gender differences. Future research was suggested to include cultural factors and consider children’s viewpoints to gain a fuller picture of family dynamics. The study also called for policies that encourage fair parenting practices.El presente estudio propuso analizar la correlación existente entre la coparentalidad y el sexismo ambivalente en padres y madres, pertenecientes a instituciones educativas distritales de Barranquilla, Colombia. Se empleó un diseño no experimental de tipo correlacional y corte transversal, con una muestra no probabilística por conveniencia constituida por 340 participantes (193 madres y 147 padres) provenientes de once instituciones educativas distritales. Para la recolección de datos, se administraron la Escala de Relaciones Coparentales (CRS) y el Inventario de Sexismo Ambivalente (ASI), ambos instrumentos con índices de confiabilidad elevados. Los resultados evidenciaron diferencias en la percepción del acuerdo coparental, con los padres reportando niveles superiores, así como en las actitudes sexistas, tanto hostiles como benevolentes. Se evidenció una correlación positiva y estadísticamente significativa entre la dimensión de apoyo/sabotaje de la coparentalidad y el sexismo benevolente en las madres. No obstante, no se identificaron asociaciones significativas entre la gestión conjunta de la coparentalidad y los componentes del sexismo ambivalente. El estudio subrayó la relevancia de comprender las dinámicas de poder inherentes a la coparentalidad, demostrando cómo las actitudes sexistas pueden influir en la distribución de roles y la toma de decisiones en el hogar. En este contexto, se resaltó la necesidad de fomentar una distribución equitativa en el ejercicio de la coparentalidad desde una perspectiva de género que considere la corresponsabilidad parental.
