Summary:This document analyzes the Colombian extractive sector, during the periods of government of President Juan Manuel Santos 2010-2018. Addressing its problems in relation to its development called contradictions of dependence on the sector, as a model of economic growth and looking at a possible long-term scenario. The research establishes the importance of the energy mining sector within the Colombian economic structure through policies, figures and regulations in the market. To identify the composition and distribution of the extractive sector today and to show the reader the weight of the energy sector in development. The project describes economic aspects addressed in the 2010-2014 development plans entitled Prosperity for all and that of 2014-2018 all for a new country in terms of locomotives in the energy mining sector and economic growth areas. What are the sectors that, according to his government, are the ones that generate the greatest economic progress in the long term. Where are the policies associated with the extractive sector as one of the most important. The purpose of the project is to explain the possible contradictions or the problems generated by the extract sector, derived from government decisions from the policies and the strengthening of the sector today regarding extractive dependence as a model of economic growth.
