Summary: | Foamy slag plays an important role in the production of steel, specifically during refining in the electric arc furnace, where the arc generated by the electrodes is used to increase the temperature to 1600 °C in order to overturn of the steel baked spoon. Foamy slag is responsible not only for trapping impurities in the form of oxides that affect the quality of steel but also allows the energy of the electric arc to pass directly to the molten steel by covering the electrodes, also preventing excessive physical and chemical wear of the refractory For this reason, a study is carried out of the components of the process in which the generation of foamy slag is affected, such as the quality of the raw material, the disposition of scrap metal in the yard, and the refining in the HEA. Likewise, the physicochemical properties that affect scum foaming are determined, such as binary basicity, density, viscosity, composition of FeO in the slag and saturation of MgO. |
