Summary: | This research project focuses on evaluating the effect of mediator concentration on the production of electrical energy in a microbial fuel cell; This substance facilitates the metabolism of the bacteria Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, helping to transfer the electrons from inside the microorganism to the CCM circuit, favoring the eventual production of electricity. This cell operated at an average temperature of 37 ° C, an initial pH of 7, using synthetic wastewater and choosing methylene blue as a mediator using the 0.0001 M and 0.0003 M concentrations during the experimentation. According to the experimentation carried out, it was observed that an increase in the concentration of mediator does not guarantee an increase in the production of electrical energy because it can favor one strain more than another. For Escherichia coli, the concentration of mediator that favored the production of electric energy was 0.0003 M, while for Pseudomonas aeruginosa it was 0.0001 M. |
