In this paper a reflection on the relationship between regional development, integration and cooperation, taken as analytical references to determine the strategies and policies that will effectively convert the border areas and the population inhabiting them exposed objects and also subjects of economic and social development articulated national development.Tanto el análisis de la problemática de las zonas de frontera, como la propuesta de estrategias y políticas de desarrollo fronterizo en particular en el ámbito latinoamericano y colombiano, requiere enmarcarse en concepciones que superen los esquemas que privilegian los problemas limítrofes y administrativos como los fundamentales de las zonas colindantes binacionales.
