Summary: | In the present work, the cartridge filtration method was evaluated to reduce particulate matter in biodiesel. A characterization of physicochemical properties of the treated biodiesel was carried out, according to the current ASTM standards for each one, with the purpose of knowing the state of the product to be treated. By means of a selection matrix, three filtration methods were exposed: cold soaking, filtration by cartridges and filtering by sleeves, which were weighted based on three criteria such as efficiency, particle size and costs in general, obtaining as a result the filtration by cartridges. Later, an experimental development was carried out in which it was found that the best filter medium for the selected alternative was High Flow, because it had a low value of the ISO 4406 cleaning code with respect to the other test filter materials. Finally, the characterization of the biodiesel using filtration by cartridges is done, making use of graphs and tables, which show a comparison of the two evaluated biodiesel; at the beginning (B100-1) and at the end (B100-2), where the results of this investigation show that the selected filtration method is adequate and according to the conditions of the company, since a difference in concentration of contamination was obtained total of 13.8 mg / kg, so its industrial implementation is convenient according to the economic evaluation that was carried out. |
