Description
Summary:This study focuses in the poppy seeds oil extraction in laboratory scale by cold pressing and Soxhlet. In the first instance, was made a bibliographic review for establishes the optimus extraction conditions that allow to obtain a high yield in the Soxhlet process, these conditions refer to operation temperature (70ºC), solvent (n-hexane), extraction time (6-7 hours) and solute-solvent relation (1:10). In the case of cold pressing was used an hand-hydraulic press. In order to evaluate the higher yield of oil extraction from poppy seeds, every process was realized in various repetitions, that allowed analyse and establish the more indicated method for the oil extraction, in this way these ones, were evaluated for commercial poppy seeds and seeds from a poppy crop in Colombia, from it, cold pressing yields of 25.40, 28.20 and 25.40%, 20, 23 and 21.60% were obtained, respectively; on the other hand for Soxhlet extraction the yields were 0.075 and 0.16%, 4.93 and 6.95%, respectively.
