Description
Summary:The objective of the present work was to prepare a coating from the recycling of expanded polystyrene diluted with d-limonene using cobalt octoate as a drying agent for the mixture and adding titanium dioxide (TiO2) as a pigment paste , for further analysis and comparison with a commercial coating; The idea was developed in a personal way as a proposal of innovation for the recycling of expanded polystyrene and was counted with the collaboration of the quality laboratories of Pintuflex S.A.S. For the performance of the relevant quality tests. To develop the project three different phases were carried out: the first phase, where the resin with which the coating is to be developed, at this point the polystyrene-limonene ratio is adjusted and the specimens are tested for application in Eterboard sheets applying two formulations per sheet simulating a natural weathering test to determine the suitability of each. The second phase, where the addition of the catalyst (cobalt octoate) and the pigment (TiO2) is carried out, making a design of 2K experiments with different concentrations of both catalyst and pigment following formulations found in the literature to make the coating that The determination of viscosity, drying, adhesion, gloss, opacity and resistance to weathering will then be subjected to the tests of a commercial enamel. The third phase, where finally the comparison of the obtained coating with a commercial enamel is made to establish a product cost analysis and capacity to fulfill its function.
