| Summary: | The purpose of the research is to improve the distillation speed of glycerol formal, by identifying the characteristics of the packaging in the column that affect the obtaining of this product. In this process it was identified that one of the most important pillars to be able to obtain the product in a more efficient way by means of separation is a vacuum distillation column. Due to this we proceed to review the existing literature on vacuum distillation in batch processes or vacuum batch distillation, the types of packaging used in this type of columns and the most convenient operating conditions in a vacuum distillation. Subsequently, different packaging alternatives are proposed in which some of its main characteristics are modified, such as; the particle size, the packing material and the packaging height. After testing each of the packaging alternatives in the process, it is determined which is the best, which benefits both the distillation speed and the quality parameters of the formal glycerol. Finally, the costs for packaging alternatives are specified, emphasizing the option chosen. |
