| Summary: | This work proposes a technical-financial proposal for the production of spent coffee grounds pellets using vegetable oil as a binder at the pilot plant level. For this purpose, a bibliographic review was initially carried out to establish the most influential properties of spent coffee grounds: moisture content, volatile matter, ash, fixed carbon and calorific value. The selection of the binder was made by comparing the most relevant properties between refined oil and crude palm oil, determining that the crude oil is the most suitable. Once the binder was selected, the conceptual design of the pelletizing process was proposed. First, a description of each of the stages was made: storage, drying, mixing, pelletizing, cooling and sieving; then the production capacity (10 tons/month), mass balance, equipment selection and the BFD and PFD diagrams were defined. Finally, the project was determined to be viable based on the results of the following financial indicators: NPV, IRR, PR, B/C. |
