Summary: | Colombia is positioned as one of the three most important coffee producers in the world. Therefore, it is a fundamental economic sector for the country's economy. However, in the last 10 years the productivity and quality of coffee beans has decreased due to the migration of labor to other sectors, the use of traditional practices, low investment in technological developments and high production costs. Consequently, in this study we used machine learning ML based on open access data made available by the CQI with more than 52,000 records, limited by Arabica variety and countries with conditions similar to Colombia, manipulated through Python. Initially, we explored the new ML trends in agriculture and coffee farming, where the k-means algorithm and neural networks are the most used. Next, we characterized the LA supply logistics of the sector, which yielded the most influential factors in the quality of coffee and the LA. This factors are the adequate storage, adequate fertilization, and good cultivation practices. Finally, the ML algorithm of linear regression was used to study the variables evaluated in the cupping of a cup of coffee referring to quality, such as aroma, flavor, body, acidity, and after taste; with a reliability percentage of 91.94%, both flavor and aftertaste are more than 80% representative in the total qualification of coffee quality. Finally, several recommendations are made for the coffee grower in his LA to preserve these properties. |
