Being spill any spill or discharge of hydrocarbons into the environment, which comes out of the control of who manipulates them; This project was born with the objective of technical and financial evaluation at laboratory level, the use of Polypropylene and Polyethylene Terephthalate residues as absorbents for oil spills in terrestrial environments. In the first instance, a description was made of the generalities of oil spills and their control methods based on a bibliographic review, at the same time, the analysis and identification of the properties of the waste was carried out by means of a physical conditioning. Subsequently, a laboratory test plan was established to establish the analysis of the variables such as: contact time, particle diameter, drainage time and oil layer thickness, in order to establish the absorption conditions according to the material and thus compare the results with commercial absorbents. Finally, the financial analysis of the project was carried out using the financial indicator of the net present value (NPV), in order to assess the viability of the application of waste in the industry.Ante uno de los mayores problemas ambientales que representa el derrame de hidrocarburos, ya sea en tierra o en ecosistemas acuáticos. Siendo derrame todo vertimiento o descarga de hidrocarburos al ambiente, que sale del control de quien los manipula ; nace este proyecto que tiene como objetivo, la evaluación técnica y financiera a nivel laboratorio el uso de residuos de Polipropileno y Tereftalato de Polietileno como absorbentes para derrames de petróleo en ambientes terrestres. En primera instancia, se realizó una descripción de las generalidades de los derrames de petróleo y sus métodos de control con base a una revisión bibliográfica, al mismo tiempo, se llevó a cabo el análisis e identificación de las propiedades de los residuos mediante un acondicionamiento físico. Posteriormente, se estableció un plan de pruebas de laboratorio para establecer el análisis de las variables como: tiempo de contacto, diámetro de partícula, tiempo de drenaje y espesor de capa de petróleo, con el fin de establecer las condiciones de absorción de acuerdo con el material y de esta manera comparar los resultados con los absorbentes comerciales.
