Description
Summary:Faced with one of the biggest environmental problems represented by the oil spill, whether on land or in aquatic ecosystems. Being spill any spill or discharge of hydrocarbons into the environment, which comes out of the control of who manipulates them; This project was born with the objective of technical and financial evaluation at laboratory level, the use of Polypropylene and Polyethylene Terephthalate residues as absorbents for oil spills in terrestrial environments. In the first instance, a description was made of the generalities of oil spills and their control methods based on a bibliographic review, at the same time, the analysis and identification of the properties of the waste was carried out by means of a physical conditioning. Subsequently, a laboratory test plan was established to establish the analysis of the variables such as: contact time, particle diameter, drainage time and oil layer thickness, in order to establish the absorption conditions according to the material and thus compare the results with commercial absorbents. Finally, the financial analysis of the project was carried out using the financial indicator of the net present value (NPV), in order to assess the viability of the application of waste in the industry.
