Summary: | The oil industry in these times is one of the causes of the effects of climate change, pointing to its emissions and waste as fundamental causes of the environmental crisis. One of them is oily sludge or sludge, which is generated and accumulates in tanks and pipes during the drilling, production, transportation and refining stages. Although there are conventional methods to treat them, such as incineration and oxidation, in this research an alternative and ecological technique was sought: thermal desorption. The study was carried out with heavy crude oil slurry samples located in the northwest of the Meta Department, Colombia, belonging to the company Transportadora X, during a period of 4 months. The main objective was to evaluate the recovery of the oil and the obtaining of a useful by-product. To this end, a theoretical characterization of the raw material and the thermal desorption process was carried out, followed by the collection and treatment of oil sludge. The laboratory experimentation was carried out using the drilling retort of the slurry laboratory of the University of America, optimizing the process through an appropriate experimental design. Finally, the properties of the ashes and the recovered oil were evaluated through various laboratory tests. |
