Summary:Given the importance of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the world economy. This paper presents a literature review on the key factors that affect the implementation of quality management systems in SMEs. The information used for the study was retrieved from the Science Direct, Scopus and Emerald Insight databases, in order to guarantee the quality of the research, emphasizing the documentation that has a significant proximity related to the key factors in the implementation and the determination of topics with potential for subsequent relevant studies. The results allow determining that leadership and commitment constitute key pillars for the implementation and maintenance of a quality management system, it is also important to consider the global vision of the organization, the improvement of processes, the orientation to the satisfaction of the client, strategic direction and economic resources.
