Summary:This review article seeks to show the different hydroponics systems that exist and how these can be an alternative to traditional agriculture and mainly in urban areas. This by to population growth and change in construction of housing. Moreover, an additional advantage of using hydroponics is the ability to obtain products free of chemical insecticides and other harmful pollutants, which is derived in obtaining organic food. Hydroponics is the most appropriate way to harvest to the current socio-economic environment of urban centers as well as being simple, clean and economical, no matter the type of plant: ornamental, medicinal and/or food.
