Description
Summary:The University of America Foundation in search of improving mechanical engineering laboratories so that students obtain and consolidate theoretical-practical knowledge, proposes the theme of designing an induction furnace for the heat treatment laboratory, because currently A smelting furnace is available, the main idea to implement it is to strengthen and gain experience in handling, understanding of the different processes that can be performed on non-ferrous metals. The design of the induction furnace for smelting of non-ferrous materials specifically aluminum by electromagnetic heating. Using the laws of electromagnetism, the inductor coil was designed, taking into account the magnetic parameters and electrical capacities that allowed to determine the number of turns, circulating electric currents, conductor sizes, cooling system and dissipated power. By calculating the voltage, current, power and frequency required in the process, electrical and electronic elements such as capacitors, reducers and frequency inverters that make up the power source were selected.
