| Summary: | From the microalgae different compounds of scientific and commercial interest are extracted; among these compounds are carotenoids. The extraction of carotenoids has been increased by its antioxidant properties and its use in diets, natural dyes and pharmaceuticals. This review article studies three phases of the process of carotenoid extraction from microalgae: microalgae selection, strain culture in various conditions to induce the generation of the compound and separation of the metabolite that is found in the biomass intracellular form. |
