Summary:This work presents, as its main objective, the identification of strategies for different conventional energy sources used for a thermal district based on technical sustainability criteria in Colombia, taking as references the different thermal districts established in the country. Following this, a description of the main characteristics and benefits of the energy networks most used for the operation of thermal districts is made. Once these aspects are determined, environmental indicators are proposed that determine how ozone-depleting substances are saved by 100% when replacing refrigerants with natural substances, savings in polluting emissions by 41.84% and decreases in the potential heating, base information that will contribute to the selection of the optimal conventional energy source for the development of centralized cooling systems.
