| Summary: | This study analyzes the impact of higher education on Colombia’s economic growth between 2000 and 2023, focusing on economic theory and CEPAL’s contributions. It examines human capital, knowledge, and innovation as key drivers of development, along with structural limitations in the education system. Despite progress in coverage and quality, challenges remain, including misalignment with the labor market, access inequalities, and low impact on productivity and innovation. The study is structured around three pillars: a theoretical review of economic growth models related to knowledge; an analysis of higher education in Latin America with a focus on Colombia; and an empirical evaluation comparing global trends with local realities. The ultimate goal is to provide insights for public policy formulation to strengthen the link between higher education and economic growth, proposing strategies to overcome barriers and maximize its transformative impact. |
