It outlines the problems generated by urban tree planting in the American Tropic since most of them rely on the use of introduced species, in detriment of native flora and fauna. As a methodology, fieldwork was carried out in ten strategic points of the campus, where photographic samples were taken and then collated with a series of scientific documents for its identification. The results highlight the identification of 143 species grouped in 119 genera and 39 families. It is concluded that it is urgent to create a management plan to conserve and improve the trees of the campus.El artículo aborda el tema de las arborizaciones en campus universitarios, y su objetivo principal es determinar la estructura y composición de la flora arbórea del Campus de la Sede Central de la Universidad de Córdoba, en la ciudad de Montería (Córdoba, Colombia). Se esbozan las problemáticas generadas por las arborizaciones urbanas en el trópico americano, puesto que en su mayoría, se apoyan en el uso de especies introducidas, en detrimento de la flora y la fauna nativas. Como metodología se realizaron trabajos de campo en diez puntos estratégicos del campus, donde se tomaron muestras fotográficas que luego se cotejaron con una serie de documentos científicos para su identificación. Dentro de los resultados se destaca la identificación de 143 especies agrupadas en 119 géneros y 39 familias.
