| Summary: | In the present study a state of the art is developed, in order to identify the main impacts of the implementation of an environmental management system based on the ISO 14001 international standard on the sustainability of organizations, in order to provide a reference source to organizations (especially SMEs), who decide to start the certification process in this international standard (or if their environmental management systems are already implemented). The first part of the study corresponds to the search and information gathering about the environmental management systems implemented with ISO 14001 and their characteristics, followed by the global analysis of the status of the certifications in this standard, describing the situation to country level, type of industry and size of organization. |
