Summary:The general objective of this degree project is the "Terraform" water-based fluid system optimization to ensure an adequate clays inhibition process for drilling the Umir Formation. For the fulfillment of the objective, different fluids are prepared based on different clay inhibitors and encapsulants that will be evaluated to determine the formulation of the drilling fluid that provides the best well stability and ensures its cleanliness by encapsulating and inhibiting clay minerals contained in Umir Formation. The proposed fluids were prepared and characterized by different laboratory tests such as density, funnel viscosity, rheology, filtration, solids and liquids content, MBT, linear swelling test, alkalinity, chlorides, hardness, and pH
