Description
Summary:In the present project, a wastewater treatment system (STAR) was designed for an artisanal tannery company, with the objective of eliminating mainly organic material and highly polluting chemical substances, for this the company was inspected and obtained samples of the discharged water, determining the parameters of flow, pH, turbidity, BOD5, COD, sulphides and chromium; with these data, suitable operations for water remediation were proposed, the main treatments being the elimination of sulfur and chromium, as well as the coagulation and flocculation, for which the acidification, precipitation and jar tests were carried out, obtaining a dosage of 19.96 mL of hydrochloric acid for 250 mL of sample from the furling stage, as well as 14 mL of sodium hydroxide with a concentration of 980,000 mg / L, for a solution of 500 mL of a sample from the mixture of the stage of tanning and retanning and finally, a concentration of coagulant and flocculant corresponding to 800 mg / L of aluminum sulfate and 60 mg / L of polyacrylamide respectively, the water after the treatment was re-characterized in the parameters already described, resulting in a sulfide concentration of 2.74 mg / L, Total Chromium of 0.68 mg / L, BOD of 1763 mg / L and COD of 2085 mg / L. These results were compared with Resolution 0631 of 2015, where compliance with each of the parameters stipulated in this standard was determined, therefore, complementary treatments were proposed and projected in the design of the actual plant. This design may be used for the implementation of the plant in the company where the research was carried out or by others operating in similar conditions.
