Summary: | The high amount of banana waste that is produced in Colombia and is wasted ends up being a problem for the producing areas of the country. Various alternatives have been evaluated for use, without so far one of them has been defined. Through the execution of this project, hydrogen production, as an energy alternative, was evaluated by fermentation using Clostridium butyricum from solid banana peel residues. In the first instance, the collection, pre-treatment and characterization of the residual biomass was carried out. The peel was washed and dried to be ground and sieved in order to adapt and select the appropriate particle size for fermentation. An SEM analysis was performed to determine morphology and corroboration of the particle size obtained. The biomass collected was characterized in terms of cellulose content (8.64%), hemicellulose (14.16%), lignin (9.76%) and CHONS (39.37%, 5.67%, 39.37%, 1.2%, 0.11% respectively). |
