Testosterone and cortisol jointly predict the ambiguity premium in an ellsberg-urns experiment

Previous literature has tried to establish whether and howsteroid hormones are related to economic risk-taking. In this study, we investigate the relationship between testosterone (T) and cortisol (C) on one side and attitudes toward risk and ambiguity on the other. We asked 78 male undergraduate st...

In this study, we investigate the relationship between testosterone (T) and cortisol (C) on one side and attitudes toward risk and ambiguity on the other. We asked 78 male undergraduate students to complete several tasks and provide two saliva samples. In the task “Reveal the Bag,” participants expressed their beliefs on an ambiguous situation in an incentivized framework. In the task “Ellsberg Bags,” we elicited fromthe participants through an incentive-compatible mechanismthe reservation prices for a risky bet and an ambiguous bet. We used the difference between the two prices to calculate each participant’s ambiguity premium. We found that participants’ salivary T and C levels jointly predicted the ambiguity premium. Participants featuring comparatively lower levels of T and C showed the highest levels of ambiguity aversionapplication/pdfhttps://doi.org/10.3389/fnbeh.2017.00068ISSN: 1662-5153https://repository.urosario.edu.co/handle/10336/27038engFrontiers Media9No. 681Frontiers in Behavioral NeuroscienceVol. 11Frontiers in Behavioral Neuroscience, ISSN: 1662-5153, Vol.11, No.68 (2015); pp. 1-9https://www.scopus.com/record/display.uri?eid=2-s2.0-85018296758&origin=inward&txGid=583df45dd7c1401aca92087d19eb6f1eAbierto (Texto Completo)http://purl.org/coar/access_right/c_abf2Frontiers in Behavioral Neuroscienceinstname:Universidad del Rosarioreponame:Repositorio Institucional EdocURAmbiguityCortisolDual hormone hypothesisEllsberg paradoxTestosteroneTestosterone and cortisol jointly predict the ambiguity premium in an ellsberg-urns experimentLa testosterona y el cortisol predicen conjuntamente la prima de ambigüedad en un experimento de ellsberg-urnsarticleArtículohttp://purl.org/coar/version/c_970fb48d4fbd8a85http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_6501Danese, GiuseppeFernandes, EugénieWatson, Neil VZilioli, SamueleORIGINALfnbeh-11-00068.pdfapplication/pdf643881https://repository.urosario.edu.co/bitstreams/c23ba55b-15da-4694-912a-330d67ffacbd/download42c7f3548da796d003029baf8a26128aMD51TEXTfnbeh-11-00068.pdf.txtfnbeh-11-00068.pdf.txtExtracted texttext/plain53246https://repository.urosario.edu.co/bitstreams/4b80249a-8246-4f1e-8bc7-8011f8dfc4da/download98c0ae7f202139180337678f9f1c37c4MD52THUMBNAILfnbeh-11-00068.pdf.jpgfnbeh-11-00068.pdf.jpgGenerated Thumbnailimage/jpeg4315https://repository.urosario.edu.co/bitstreams/cd86f366-55e0-448e-ac5a-5e8d78fb950f/download82a469848e25a9b8438eefc54131537fMD5310336/27038oai:repository.urosario.edu.co:10336/270382021-06-03 00:50:04.599https://repository.urosario.edu.coRepositorio institucional EdocURedocur@urosario.edu.co
