The key components (meaning units) of American Psycho capitalist critique lost in translation due to the degeneracy phenomenon

This project arises from the need to understand the degeneracy phenomenon and how it affects intersemiotic translation processes. Also,this investigation aims to offer a space to study intersemiotic translation in depth, as well as social phenomena like capitalism and consumerism. It analyzes how the capitalist critique in American Psycho is altered by the degeneracy phenomenon in its film adaptation, it also identifies the meaning units that compose said critique, describes and compares them. In order to conclude if these units were altered, transformed, or omitted in the film adaptation. Regarding the methodology, this project has a qualitative focus, an interpretative paradigm, is a descriptive study and uses hermeneutical phenomenology for its documentary review. The main results of this investigation show that social segregation and the objectification of women, key meaning units for the capitalist critique, are deeply affected by the degeneracy phenomena, losing the original intention of the original text.
